You've stumbled in to our website and we thank you for dropping in. The picture above is of Shiprock (not the person, but the rock to the right of my mother's head). This monolith is located in the Navajo country of New Mexico. In 1995 Susan and I took my 75 year old mother (Frances (Johnson) Fitzpatrick) on a trip of discovery from Indiana out through New Mexico to Arizona, up to Colorado and back. My mother had always wanted to explore that area of the country (there was an ill-fated journey that she took with my father and her parents back in the 60's that came to a halt in Tucumcari, New Mexico when the car motor blew up and they spent the rest of the vacation in a small hot hotel room). She was an avid fan of Tony Hillerman's writings and wanted to see for herself the country she had been reading about. Shiprock was one of those places that was on her list. We saw it from a great distance in 1995. In 1999 we made a return trip and we were able to find a road that went by close enough that we could get this picture (This is not as close as we ended up getting, I took this picture in order to get both the rock and Mother in to the frame). Just to put things in perspective, the rock to the right of Mother's head is about 2000 feet high. At any rate, thanks for coming.
